St. Petersburg Science Festival

Come be part of the 5th Annual St. Petersburg Science Festival, a regional celebration where families and the public can explore the wonders of hands-on science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM).

The 2015 festival will be held on October 17, 2015, along the waterfront campus of the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. The event is held in conjunction with   MarineQuest, the annual open house of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's Fish and Wildlife Research Institute.

Our mission is to show that learning science can be fun, to showcase the wonders of science, relate how science fits into the larger context of modern everyday life, and to connect the public with scientists for a direct translation.

Why a science festival?

Science is vital for even the most basic aspects of modern society. Every day, each one of us benefits from scientific knowledge through the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the water we drink. Science and technology power our world, protect us from natural disasters, improve our health, and entertain us.

The inspiring science happening throughout our region has been and will continue to be the star, front and center, of this vibrant celebration of hands-on activities for children and adults with emphasis on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) learning.

2015 Festival Goals

The St. Petersburg Science Festival has grown in leaps and bounds since its 2011 debut, and we were thrilled to announce the addition of a Sneak Peek School Day in 2013 and an art installation in 2014 in order to help us meet our festival goals. Our 2015 festival goals are:

  • Create a positive experience with STEAM-related activities that will inspire festival visitors to seek out involvement in other STEAM-related activities throughout the year.
  • Increase the participation in STEAM-activities of children from underrepresented communities.
  • Provide opportunities for research and science professionals to engage in public outreach related to STEAM careers and diverse research endeavors.
